How does Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University use the contributions?

Your Winship 5K contribution, in partnership with others, will be used to advance the critical research, programmatic and training priorities at Winship Cancer Institute. You may direct your donation to a general Winship fund or to a specific type of cancer listed here: Funds to Support.

Do I have to donate to the same fund that my team captain selects?

No, you do not have to donate to the same Winship fund as your team captain. Regardless of which Winship donation fund you select, any donations you make through your team or personal page will count toward the team goal.

Example: If your team captain designated his/her personal donation to the Winship Director's Fund, you can designate your donation to the Winship Leukemia Fund.

Is a portion of the registration fee a donation?

No. Only donations are tax deductible. NOTE: This is a reminder that the registration fee is not considered a donation; however, it will be counted toward the total event goal. Only funds raised above the registration fee are tax deductible.

What is the long website address that I received in my confirmation receipt?

This website address will take you to your participant center. You also can copy and paste this link into any other form of email.

Is my information secure?

Yes, every effort has been made to protect your information. Industry-standard SSL encryption techniques have been used to make sure that your credit card information, passwords and personal information travel securely over the Internet. We also have installed an encryption engine on our database server so that your data is securely stored.

Can friends and family make a donation to a participant or team by going through the Winship 5K website?

Yes. On the home page of the Winship 5K website, friends and family can locate a participant or team by clicking on the "Search Participants" or “Search Teams” option.

Why is the "Search Participants" function not finding a participant whom I know has registered?

You must type in the first name or last name of the participant exactly how it is spelled. If you have a problem locating a participant whom you are sure has registered, please contact us at

How can I see who has donated to me?

Go to the "Login" section on the site. Use the username and password that you received when you registered for the event or login using your social media account. You then can view your donor list and the amounts that have been donated by selecting the "Progress" tab.

Not all of my donors are showing up on the scroll mechanism. Why?

As your donors make a contribution, they have the option of whether they want to appear in the recognition scroll. If they opted not to be shown, their names will not appear on the recognition scroll.

How do I donate by check?

The easiest way to support your Winship 5K participant and/or team is through your online credit card donation. If you prefer to donate by check, please print and fill out the printable Winship 5K donation form here and mail your check—made out to Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University—to the address noted on the bottom of the form.

IMPORTANT: If you want your gift to count toward the fundraising goal of a specific Winship 5K team or Winship 5K participant, please clearly write the team name or individual participant name on the giving form where noted. To locate a team or participant name, visit team search or participant search.

What about cash donations?

Online credit card and donations by check are the preferred way for us to provide a formal receipt for tax acknowledgment purposes. Emory University cannot issue a tax acknowledgement for cash donation submitted by anyone other than the actual donor. Please do not send cash through the mail.

If you must make a cash donation, please call the Winship Development Office at 404.778.5175 for in-person coordination. Again, please do not send cash donations through the mail.

Can I make a stock donation?

Yes, you are able to make a stock donation in support of the Winship Win the Fight 5K. The stock donation will be made to Emory University and then routed to Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University. For specific instructions, please contact the Winship Development Office at 404.778.5175 or email and in the subject line write “Stock Donation.” One of our gift officers will follow up with you promptly.

Can I specify a particular fund for my team members and donors to support?

To protect individual donor interest, participants cannot obligate donors to support a particular fund or provide a single fund designation option for their team donation pages. Participants can, however, strongly encourage or request that donors support a particular fund. A good way to gain support for the fund you are supporting is to communicate to your supporters (especially on your personal or team page) why the fund is so important to you. Regardless of which Winship fund your donor selects, as long as they have donated through your team or personal page, their donation will count toward the team or individual goal.

Here is an example of appropriate wording: “We recommend the Melanoma & Skin Cancer fund, in memory of Gordon. But no matter which fund you choose to support, your contribution is greatly appreciated and will benefit many.”

Do I have to be a participant or part of a team to donate?

No. You can make a general donation by clicking the “Donate” button on the upper right corner of the homepage and select “Make a General Donation”.
