Welcome to my Lungs N' Roses page!
I'm so excited for next week's Winship 5K! It's not too late to join or donate - click the link on the right side of this page to make a donation!
After being cancer-free for 2 1/2 years, in March a CT scan showed two lymph nodes growing on my trachea and aorta. In April a bronchoscopy confirmed a recurrence of the rare atypical neuroendocrine lung cancer that I had in 2015. My Winship dream team of doctors ( Dr. Szabo, Dr. Curran, Dr. Ramalingam) determined radiation was the best method to kill the cancer so I spent every day in May going to Winship for radiation. And every single day when I got off the elevator on the tunnel Level, turned left and entered Winship's Radiation Oncology, I ALWAYS had smile on my face -- thanks to the incredible “The Joel A. Katz Music Is Medicine Collection” on display, a special thanks to the administrators who staff the registration desk in the Radiation Oncology Department, and a warm thank you to radiation team of talented technicians who piped music into the radiation room and turned up the volume when I asked. The music became my focus and I quickly realized it was also my “medicine” when I laid perfectly still as the radiation beams entered my body.
The music resonated within me and I realized that there had to be a tie in between our team name based on a classic rock band and how I felt during radiation as well. In addition to my husband, daughters and girl friends, music played such a big role in lifting my spirits during these radiation treatments. Laying on the radiation table I decided I had to tie our team name together with the significance of music’s that was radiating from Winship and we needed to enhance the Lungs N’ Roses logo.
I hope you love the new look of our shirts as much as me. They are the same wick-proof material as last year and are available again in mens short sleeves and women tanks. This year shirts are being sold together with a custom running hats for $30. Although the 9/24 deadline to order shirts has passed, I have a limited number of shirts available in each size if you are interested. Text me with the type and size you'd like and I'll let you know if I have it.
For now I will just thank The Icebox and Amy Bubes for all their help with an insanely awesome new design!
Hugs 'n Roses,
